Well, we do it to ourselves - we went the movies AGAIN! This time, however, I didnt have as big of an urge as the last 2 times to have popcorn. Im more concerned about next weekend - there are 2 or 3 movies we want to see over memorial weekend. Im hoping we can just go watch them all on Monday!
Its getting hard with the weather getting nicer and the kids wanting to go out for ice cream or fro-yo. Im excited to bring them there, but while we cant have dairy right now, its tough. My daughter (who is a very picky eater) is asking more questions about the diet, which has opened up a nice opportunity to educate her on healthy foods and what it means to make our bodies healthy - not just skinny. I explained how we all need to eat fruits and veggies and to eat grass-fed organic meats and dairy. Shes starting to understand and I believe as we continue to bring more diverse foods into the house, she will learn to love eating healthy as well.

Well it was a very busy weekend but I somehow managed to squeak in a weigh-in on Saturday morning. I didnt hold out much hope for losing weight this past week because of going out to eat for my anniversary and having an incredibly busy schedule that didnt allow for much exercise so I was more than a little surprised when the Medi-Weightloss Clinics nurse said, "I think youre going to be happy this week!"
Somehow I managed to drop 3.3 lbs! 1.5 lbs of that was fat and my total weight loss to date is now a whopping 53 lbs!!! I finally crossed that 50 lb threshold and I am now over 41% of the way to my goal of losing 127 lbs!
Unfortunately my good news was not a good motivator for avoiding carb-heavy foods this weekend. I attended a friends wedding on Saturday where I indulged in quite a bit of wine plus 3 out of 4 courses (skipping only dessert) and then ate a sliver of carrot cake on Fathers Day at my sister-in-laws house because... well, I have no good reason. That carrot cake just looked damn good. I should have been stronger but I feel better today about getting back on track and being better motivated throughout this week. I wont even talk about the grilled cheese sandwich I splurged on last night out of desperation for one last weekend splurge.
One thing Ive learned from my weekend of bad choices: The grass isnt always greener on the other side. Mashed potatoes, cake, starchy soup... none of those things helped me achieve my goals or helped me feel better about myself... just the opposite. When my willpower is strong, it is admirable and inspiring. When it is weak, so too will be my results. So, Ill wait to try anymore cake or potatoes until Im a little closer to where I want to be instead of subconsciously holding myself back in fear of the future.

Day 18 and another unwelcome Monday. Sometimes it just feels like the weekend zips by too quickly. Theres so much Id like to do in those two days that I often dont end up doing much of anything because Im so overwhelmed by the prospect of using my entire weekend to clean, run errands, do the laundry, etc. I think Id rather work ten hours/day for four days each week and have three days off each weekend. Maybe three days would help me feel more rested come Monday.
I suppose it doesnt help that I was woken up numerous times during my sleep last night with cramps in my legs from bowling on Friday. Bowling is great fun and a tremendous amount of exercise when youre doing it for two hours straight but the toll it took on me over the weekend was pretty severe. Ive had leg cramps in my sleep, my thighs were burning and Ive even gotten a couple of muscle spasms in my back. Today is really the first day that Ive felt like I could go up and down a flight of stairs without my thighs burning & locking up from the muscle tension.
Maybe I need a massage. I have a $25 SpaFinder.com gift card that I have yet to use... its very tempting! The real problem with that is that my normal LMTs are not on the SpaFinder.com list. I have three massage therapists that I have seen regularly (2-3x/year) for the past 5 or 6 years; Andrea from East Side Massage Therapy in Providence, an older Korean woman who has a massage therapy practice in North Providence on Mineral Spring Avenue, and my cousin Clothilde who just got her license last year and has an impressive deep tissue technique. I tried Massage Envy in Cranston once and will never go back. They attempted to up sell me after my massage with a package to get a massage every month. Not exactly relaxing to hear a sales pitch after your massage. So, if anyone can suggest any other LMTs in Rhode Island or Southeastern Massachusetts that I might find on that list, Id greatly appreciate it.
So other than lingering muscle aches and pains, my weekend went well! I made homemade Alfredo sauce for whole wheat penne when company was over for dinner Saturday night and I didnt even taste test it! I let them have at it and figured Id base whether the recipe was a keeper or not on their reactions. I may be on a diet but I still LOVE to cook! Thats been one of the biggest challenges for me with being on this diet... not cooking my favorite foods on a regular basis... or my favorite recipes for that matter. I have three ripe bananas in my freezer just waiting to make a banana bread but Im TERRIFIED of making it because I would either need to get it out of the house or freeze the bread itself for later use in order to not swallow it whole as soon as it came out of the oven. Maybe I can make it and donate it to my grandmothers church for their coffee hour.
Im still in ketosis, still drinking a gallon of water a day, still eating 600-700 calories of protein each day, and still attempting to exercise on a regular basis. I havent done much in the way of exercise since Fridays bowling but Im thinking that today after work will be a good time to get on my Wii Fit and try out the step aerobics with my new platform (making the step a full 4 inches). Im thinking maybe 15-20 minutes to start but I may need to switch off to something less leg-oriented if my muscles are still frozen up from bowling. Heres hoping for another 2+ lbs lost after this week. Im over 10% of the way to my goal already!

YEAH! We have lost some weight this week - FINALLY! It was a very busy day with baseball and dance this evening, we didnt eat until after 7, but it all worked out. I didnt end up working out because I started getting a headache shortly after eating - not sure what the deal is there...no stress and I have tomorrow off!

Had soup that I had frozen from last week - it still taste good as if I made it the day before. Im definitly going to keep that in mind for next time. I also need to invest in some good containers that work well in the freezer and invest in a deep freezer since there is no space in mine right now!
