Day 20 on the Fast Metabolism Diet 5 18 13

Well, we do it to ourselves - we went the movies AGAIN!  This time, however, I didnt have as big of an urge as the last 2 times to have popcorn.  Im more concerned about next weekend - there are 2 or 3 movies we want to see over memorial weekend.  Im hoping we can just go watch them all on Monday!

Its getting hard with the weather getting nicer and the kids wanting to go out for ice cream or fro-yo.  Im excited to bring them there, but while we cant have dairy right now, its tough. My daughter (who is a very picky eater) is asking more questions about the diet, which has opened up a nice opportunity to educate her on healthy foods and what it means to make our bodies healthy - not just skinny.  I explained how we all need to eat fruits and veggies and to eat grass-fed organic meats and dairy.  Shes starting to understand and I believe as we continue to bring more diverse foods into the house, she will learn to love eating healthy as well.

Family Photo Chaos

I felt like when I told my photographer that I wanted family pictures done this year she was a tad horrified because it would entail photographing a 5 month old baby and a overly excitable dog. But she took on the challenge without any complaints.

Before we went for pictures Roarke took a 3 hour nap and ate a good meal so he was good to go. However, what I should have done to prepare Remington for the shoot is take him on a long walk beforehand to chill him out a bit. He was completely crazy most of the time we were trying for pictures. My photographer also said that I was her biggest problem to take pictures of because I was constantly scolding Remington and looking at Roarke trying to keep his hands out of his mouth... Oops!

I left the session with the thought that if we came away with one good picture of the four of us together I would be happy. However, when I got the pictures I was pleasantly surprised. I was really happy with them, especially the ones that included Remington ;)

Below are some of my favorites!

Looking forward to printing them our and sharing them with family :)

Week 20 Weigh In Results

Oops!!  Its almost time to report my Week 21 weigh-in results and I completely forgot to post my week 20 results!  This time I wasnt trying to procrastinate, I just completely forgot that I hadnt done it yet.

Last Saturday I weighed in with a loss of 1.6 lbs, putting me down a total of 54.1 lbs!

This week has been difficult with 4th of July and just generally feeling a little envious of everyones summer eating habits.  Ive been terrible at tracking my food this week, ate at Wendys, drank 3 or 4 Twisted Teas on 4th of July... well, you get the idea, Ive been off track to say the least.

Yesterday and today Im doing better though with tracking and eating the right foods.  I hope that this week doesnt set me back too much.  Ill find out tomorrow morning bright & early!

Week 3 Recap of the Fast Metabolism Diet 5 20 13

21 days down, 7 more days to go!  This is final stretch and Im hoping to go strong this week.  I want to stay focused and get both cardio days and both weight lifting days in - this tends to be a challenge since weve had to work out in the evenings which conflicts with the kids activities, but weve got to make it a priority.  As you can tell from earlier posts this last week, we had a lot of frustration with the lack of weight loss.  Its hard when we are following the plan and eating so well, measuring food, working out as specified and not seeing the results.  I hope that this week gives us some better numbers on the scale and I look forward to MY hybrid plan for the following week.

Week 3 Weight Loss:
Kiana: 1.6 lbs, for a total weight loss of 11.6 lbs or 7.1%
Anthony: 3 lbs, for a total weight loss of 18.8 lbs or 7.2%

Together, my husband and I have successfully removed a little over 30 pounds off of our bodies in just 21 days!  I cant wait to see what the final numbers are and where we end up at the 28 day mark - we have an exciting week ahead of us!

20 Weeks Halfway There!

When I realized that I am now 20 weeks along I was in a small state of shock! Holy cow... Im halfway through this pregnancy! Where in the world did the time go??? And how in the world am I, the person who knows very little about babies and kids in general, going to care for this new life??? Its safe to say that Im not only nervous about the change that will soon occur in our lives, but down right scared...

So, just like I did when I was given the task to care for a small 10 week old puppy, I have started to research and read different materials to educate myself on how to be a parent. The top two books Im reading right now are "What to Expect the First Year" & "Nursing Your Baby." Im hoping they both teach me all things "baby" and all things "breastfeeding" since Im overly concerned about both.

Anyways, enough about all my worries and onto the fun stuff! I had another doctors appointment this past week. Everything is checking out okay so far. The doctor says the baby has a great looking head and that I have a great looking placenta... who knew! We could have found out the sex this appointment, but I was tough and declined the offer to find out even though I think Dan is more than ready to know. HA! We did get to take home some face shots of our little June Bug that I can share with you.

Profile shot...

Face shot... baby looking at you...

3D ultrasound shot! Wild isnt it!

Even though there is a LOT of changes happening right now, one of the coolest things I have experienced lately is being able to feel the baby move not only from the inside, but I can put my hand on my stomach and feel it on the outside as well. There was even a night that I felt it kicking and could actually see my stomach move! CRAZY! Of course, poor Dan has either not been home when this all is happening or the baby stops its acrobatics when he tries to feel. But he was finally able to feel it slightly one night which was super exciting for both of us :)

One of the things I have been struggling with the most is people wanting to touch my stomach.... uhhhhhgggg just the thought makes me cringe. I have tried to be pretty vocal with most people that its okay to look, but please dont touch... but working at a place full of older ladies its hard to get them to understand that Im not comfortable with their hands all over me. I get that there is a baby inside there, but to me its my belly and not something I enjoy people rubbing all the time. Dan is the only person who has free reign to touch the baby bump whenever he pleases.

Anyways, Ill leave you with the first of few belly pics. As you can see, Remington is already in love with our soon to be new addition to the family. At least I like to think so. HA! No honestly... in all reality he is completely unaware of what is about to happen to him :)

Day 22 on the Fast Metabolism Diet 5 20 13

I managed to have a different fruit with every meal today - yeah!  Im trying to mix up the foods a little more, but its hard to get away from the "staples": oatmeal, eggs, chicken and steak.  Im not into seafood, except for shrimp, but no one else will eat it when I make it at home - apparently I dont make Benihana quality shrimp!  I just need to switch out the chicken for shrimp in either the rice or pasta dish and I bet theyll eat it then - something to try next week!

Day 20

Well, its day 20 and so far exercise has not been going as I had hoped this week.  Ive felt a little "out of it" since my 2 hours of bowling last Friday and have been feeling run down on top of that so I havent gotten any real exercise in yet this week.  Im hoping that doesnt have too much of a negative impact at the scale on Saturday but Ive also still got 2 whole days to try and turn that around.

Something else I wish I could turn around?  This snow storm!  I cant wait for Spring!  Ill take rain over snow any day.

I tried a new (to me) recipe last night that came from my Dad.  He lost ~100 lbs last year with the Ideal Protein diet (similar eating style to Medi-Weightloss) so I figured he might know a thing or two about making my precious few veggies more exciting.  Heres the recipe I used last night:

Roasted Yellow Turnip "Fries"

1 Yellow Turnip (rutabaga), peeled & sliced into french fry size pieces
Olive Oil Non-Stick Spray
Kosher Salt
Freshly Cracked Pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Spray a large shallow baking sheet with olive oil non-stick spray.  Arrange turnip pieces into a single layer and spray them lightly with olive oil non-stick spray.  Sprinkle with Kosher salt and freshly cracked pepper, as desired.  Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping turnip once halfway through cooking time as to brown both sides.  Serve while warm.  Makes about four servings (1 cup each).

Turnip doesnt exactly become crispy like a french fry (youll need a fork) but it certainly tastes delicious and is something different from the usual salads and broccoli.  The toughest part of that recipe?  Making sure you have a knife sharp enough to cut through turnip!

Ive actually had some trouble getting in my full gallon of water every day lately.  Sometimes I feel like Im drowning, trying to drink so much every day, but its difficult when youre concentrating on something at work or playing cards at home... you just dont always remember to take a drink.  And then it turns into being short on fluids for the day by 16-32 oz.  Ive really got to find a way to make myself more aware of that need for hydration.  I think because Ive become less hungry over the past 2+ weeks, Im drinking less because before I would drink to make up for not being able to eat more.  My stomach must be shrinking because now I rarely feel ravenous like I did in week 1.  Thats good for my health and bad for my water consumption.

Again, Im hoping for a loss of 2 lbs or more this week.  We shall see!  8am on Saturday is the moment of truth.
