10 Healthy Appetizers for Super Bowl Party

SHARE ON YUMMLY --> Yum

Hosting or attending a Super Bowl party on Sunday?

How fun. Game Day has always been an unspoken holiday in the United States--and another opportunity for friends and family to celebrate. However, Game Day could also ruin your clean eating diet, with junk food and alcohol appearing everywhere, tempting you to splurge on calories and fat.

To continue your weight loss journey with clean eating and still enjoy food at Super Bowl parties, consider trying the easy healthy appetizers below.

Theyre quick, tasty and crowd-pleasing, but most of all, theyre healthy. From creamy dip to crunchy veggies, these clean eating ideas and weight loss foods help you stay on track of a clean eating diet without feeling deprived during the fun-filled American "holiday."

1. Veggies and Hummus Dip

Crunchy veggies in creamy hummus? Yes please!

2. All Natural Corn Chips and Greek Yogurt Guacamole

Have you tried Trader Joes Reduced Guilt Chunky Guacamole?

Its delicious! Made with nonfat Greek yogurt, this lighter guacamole contains only 30 calories and two grams of fat per serving. Yet it tastes just as good, if not better, than traditional guacamole. Im in LOVE with it! Hope you give it a try.

For chips I used Way Better Snacks Simply Beyond Black Bean Tortilla Chips.

Oh my god! They are delicious! Theyre sprouted tortilla chips, which means the grains are sprouted to increase nutrients and better digestion. The black beans also reduce cholesterol. Plus, and again, theyre delicious.

Get them at Way Better Snacks Black Bean Chips.

3. Apple Banana and All Natural Peanut Butter Stack

Just stack all-natural peanut butter, Apple slices and banana together, and enjoy!

4. 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Fruit Dip (by Cooking Classy)

What a creative idea by Cooking Classy! This fruit dip is easy-to-do and protein-rich. To make it even cleaner, I recommend using all-natural, freshly-ground peanut butter, raw honey and nonfat plain Greek yogurt. Still, this is a wonderful and creative idea, and heres the original recipe: Peanut Butter Fruit Dip

5. Cucumber and All-Natural Turkey Sandwich Bites

Simple and protein-rich, these bite-sized sandwiches are great for low-carb diet. I eat these often as snack and saw them fitting to be served at Super Bowl parties.

6. Healthy Buffalo Cauliflower Bites (by Gal on a Mission)

Cauliflower fans are in luck because these buffalo-flavored snacks are crunchy, tasteful and nutritious. Rich in vitamin C, folate and fiber, cauliflower is one of the most nutrient-dense vegetables in the world. Due to its thick texture, it can be cooked in various ways, including being used as pizza crust.

This clean eating recipe transformed cauliflower into a classic Super Bowl appetizer, with saucy, finger-licking buffalo spices and creamy dip on the side. I absolutely adore this idea, and hope you like it too.

Find recipe at Healthy Buffalo Cauliflower Bites.

7. Tuna Salad on Roasted Seaweed

Many consider seaweed as super food because its abundant in iodine, which keeps thyroids healthy and therefore regulates hormones. Seaweed also reduces inflammation and is rich in antioxidants.

Seaweed, especially roasted seaweed in this clean eating appetizer, is also tasty. Its slightly salty, crunchy and wholesomely delicious. Add tuna salad on top and these make the perfect bite-sized snack.

Interested in the recipe? Find it at Healthy Appetizer - Tuna Salad on Roasted Seaweed.

8. Crunchy Tomato Mozzarella Pesto Stack (recipe from Clean Eating Recipes Blog)

Not sure about you but I feel that pesto makes everything tastier. The combination of crunchy cucumber and soft tomato also works well. Overall, this was a wonderful, delicious appetizer to both serve and enjoy.

You can find recipe at Clean Eating Appetizer - Crunchy Tomato Mozzarella and Pesto Stack.

9. Paleo and Low Carb Deviled Eggs (by Ripped Recipes)

These low carb treats are made tastier with avocado. Deviled eggs are already crowd-pleasers--and Ive a feeling that these avocado-filled deviled eggs will please even more.

Find recipe at Paleo and Low Carb Deviled Eggs.

10. Natural and Organic Chips and Snacks

Well its the Super Bowl after all, and you deserve to splurge. But if you splurge, splurge on natural and organic snacks that are non-GMO and contain little preservatives. As long as youre aware, youll find ample choices like Terra Chips (see below), vacuum-fried vegetable, Nuts and Dried Fruit Mixes and organic chocolate.

Terra Chips are awesome! They are made with real vegetables, are non-GMO and gluten- and preservatives-free. Theyre crunchy, delightful and great for snacking.

Get them at Terra Sweets and Beets.

Another awesome idea is mixed nuts and I like Kirklands Signature Extra Fancy Unsalted Mixed Nuts. The mix includes almonds, peanuts, cashews...basically, all your favorites, and are fun to nibble on and delectable to taste.

Get them at Kirkland Mixed Nuts.

Happy Super Bowl Day!

I know. Theres no such thing.

Well, I hope you enjoy the game, the gatherings and the food anyway.

Healthy Lunch Shrimp Avocado Boat

Yum

"Help me lose weight!"

... is probably one of the most common phrases you hear in January. I walked into the gym two weeks ago, and could barely find a free locker.

And traffic for my clean eating and weight loss websites? Shooting off the roof!

While Im happy everyones asking for weight loss help, and has health and fitness on their minds...

I must stress that weight loss--and especially doing it through a clean eating diet--isnt a traditional process that deprives of certain food groups and cutting calories. Instead, proper weight loss (through clean eating diet) requires daily eat clean habits and exercise--and continuing both for a life time.

A clean eating diet, despite its ability to help with weight loss, is not a diet but a life style change.

And hence this little websites purpose to provide free daily clean eating and weight loss meal plans, with easy and healthy meal ideas, as well as constant reminders that aid in your weight loss journey.

One of the improvements Id like to make to the Clean Eating and Meal Plan site, in 2015, is to add more healthy weight loss recipes.

Meal plans are good; links to other sites are great. However, I also feel that providing healthy recipes right here adds variety and therefore improves visitors overall experience.

Without further a due, heres todays Healthy Lunch Recipe--Shrimp Avocado Boat.

I served this to family and friends during Christmas, and everyone loved it. I think youll like it too, especially if youre an avocado-lover.

Healthy Lunch: Shrimp Avocado Boat

Ingredients:

- 11/2 to 2 cups of cooked shrimp, diced
- 1 table spoon of fresh organic chives, diced
- 1 Haas avocado
- 2 leaves of basil, broken into small pieces
- 1/2 table spoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 dash of sea salt
- 1 dash of fresh ground black pepper
- 1 tea spoon of organic balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup of organ cream cheese
- 1/2 cup of nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tea spoons of dry dill

Directions:

1. Cut avocado into two halves, and take out core. Lay on plate and set aside.
2. Heat frying pan on high. Add olive oil.
3. When olive oil heats up, add chives and shrimp. Stir for 30 seconds.
4. Add sea salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar. Stir and cook for about 1 min.
5. Turn off heat. Transfer cooked shrimp into a bowl. Set aside.
6. In a mixing bowl, add cream cheese, yogurt and dill. Mix well.
7. Add cooked shrimp into the mixing bowl. Mix again.
8. Scoop mixture evenly into each avocado halve (or boat).
9. Top with broken basil leaves.

Serve and enjoy!

I think Ill make this healthy lunch again tomorrow.

Just looking at the Shrimp Avocado Boats makes me drool. Hope you like it too.

By the way, for this clean eating recipe, here are the products I recommend:

Are you truly ready for weight loss

Your weight-loss success depends in large part on your readiness to take on the challenge. If you jump in before youre ready, your weight-loss plan may buckle under the first challenge. Use these questions to assess your weight-loss readiness.
1. Are you motivated to make long-term lifestyle changes?
Successful weight loss depends on permanent lifestyle changes, such as eating healthy foods and exercising more. That could represent a significant departure from your current lifestyle. Be honest. Knowing that you need to make changes in your life and actually doing it are two different things. You may have to overhaul your diet so that youre eating more whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products, for example. Youll also need to find time to exercise for at least 30 minutes nearly every day of the week. Exercise is especially important to prevent regaining your lost weight.
Your motivation for undertaking these changes may be better health, improved appearance or just feeling better about yourself in general. As long as your motivation is a healthy one, it doesnt really matter what it is. Find your motivation and focus on it.
2. Have you addressed the big distractions in your life?
If youre dealing with major life events, such as marital problems, job stress, illness or financial worries, you may not want to add the challenge of overhauling your eating and exercise habits. Instead, consider giving your life a chance to calm down before you launch your weight-loss program.
3. Do you have a realistic picture of how much weight youll lose and how quickly?
Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is a lifelong process. Over the long term, its best to aim for losing 1 to 2 pounds (0.5 to 1 kilogram) a week. To lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, you need to burn 500 to 1,000 calories more than you consume each day. You can do that through a low-calorie diet and regular physical activity or exercise.
Initially you might lose weight more quickly than that if you make significant changes — just be sure the changes are health supporting. Dont get discouraged if your rate of weight loss slows a bit after bigger initial losses.
4. Have you resolved any emotional issues connected to your weight?
Emotions and food are often intertwined. Anger, stress, grief and boredom can trigger emotional eating. And if you have a history of an eating disorder, weight loss can be even trickier. Start by identifying your emotional issues related to food so that youre prepared for the challenges. Talk to your doctor about what weight-loss options are best for you.
5. Do you have support and accountability?
Any weight-loss program can be difficult. You may face moments of temptation or become disheartened. Having someone in your corner to offer encouragement can help. If you dont have friends or family you can rely on for positive help, consider joining a weight-loss support group.
If you want to keep your weight-loss efforts private, be prepared to be accountable to yourself with regular weigh-ins and a log of your diet and activity. You might also want to consider joining an online program or using a certified health coach.
6. Have you embraced the weight-loss challenge?
If you dont have a positive attitude about losing weight, you may not be ready. If you dread what lies ahead, you may be more likely to find excuses to veer off course. Try to embrace the vision of your new lifestyle and remain positive. Focus on how good youll feel when youre more active or when you weigh less. Picture yourself celebrating every little success along the way, whether its opting for a low-fat cottage cheese snack instead of chips or going for a walk.
Youre ready for weight loss: Now what?
If you answered yes to all or most of these questions, youre probably ready to make the lifestyle changes necessary to work toward permanent weight loss. You may be able to forge ahead on your own, creating your own lifestyle program for healthy eating and exercising. Or you may feel you need help.
Educating yourself about the process of successful weight loss and maintenance is a start. For example, learn more about the dietary changes necessary for losing weight. See a dietitian or enroll in a behavior-based weight program that can help you change the habits that can interfere with weight loss, such as eating when youre stressed or bored. If you have a significant amount of weight to lose, you may benefit from medically supervised weight loss with a team of health professionals that may include a dietitian, a therapist or an obesity specialist.
What if youre not ready?
If you answered no to more than one of these questions, you may not be ready to embark on a weight-loss program right now. And thats OK. Explore whats holding you back and face those obstacles. In some cases it may simply be a matter of timing. For instance, you may need to resolve other stressors in your life first. In other cases, you may need to work on related issues, such as your feelings toward weight loss or your willingness to commit to permanent lifestyle changes.

Breakfast

Organic Steel Cut Oats with Mixed Berry Sauce

After softening mixed berries with coconut oil and and all natural brown cane sugar via stove top, ingredients turned into berry sauce. I then added sauce to cooked organic steel cut oats. It was a scrumptious and filling breakfast. Hope you like the idea!

Mid Morning Snack

Trader Joes Dark Chocolate Almonds

A little sweet and a little salty, these dark chocolate almonds explode with flavor.

Find them at Trader Joes Dark Chocolate Almonds.

Lunch

Thai Black Fried Rice

Black rice, or forbidden rice, is a product of Southeast Asia. Its rich in antioxidants that flush bodys waste and anthocyanins that prevent plague-build up in arteries to cause heart attack.

Like white rice, black rice can be cooked in many ways, including in fried rice. Todays black fried rice, for example, is a fantastic way to enjoy black rice. With eggs and broccoli, the dish was full of protein, vegetable and grain. Plus, it was tasty.

If you want the recipe, find it at Clean Eating Dinner Recipe - Thai Black Rice

Afternoon Snack

Grapes, Walnuts and Honey

Dinner

Clean Eating Orange Chicken

Normal process of making orange chicken is to first bread and fry chicken in oil at high temperature, and then drown the chicken, by stir fry, in heavy, starchy and sugary sauce. (Trust me. Our family owned a Chinese restaurant. Ive seen the process many times.)

Orange chicken is delicious, but certainly unhealthy. Todays clean eating orange chicken, however, retains orange chickens tangy flavor without deep-frying and heavy breading. Its light, simple and (still) delicious. A great clean eating alternative to your favorite Chinese meal.

Find recipe at Clean Eating Dinner - Orange Chicken.

My Key to cooking fresh food

Key to cooking fresh food along with stressful work life is advance preparation and getting up early.
Early morning Brown Rice(in electric cooker) and Dal/Lentil(pressure cooker)/Soup are kept before starting morning rituals.
Frozen cut veg or quick cutting vegetables are stir fired with very basic seasoning and put the lid with low heat. So by the time Im ready for work my half cooking is done.
Evening when I enter home all I do is make hot Roties (Phulksa)/Tortias/Indian Bread and Season the boiled dal (lentil)/Soup.
Stock Dosa batter/Indian Pancake batter
Make some chutneys/sause/dips in weekend
Stock cut salad so you save some time.
Use tomato paste & tamarind paste, ready seasoning like McCormicks spices, or make your own combination to accelerate cooking.
Youve to give up traditional cooking and stick to very basic cooking to keep up with healthy life style.
If healthy fresh cooked food is not in kitchen Junk food find its way.
Just wake up 20min early than your daily routine and try whatever I suggested.
Cooking is rapid & swift in the morning than evening. By end of the day we are really stressed and tired. We can get more mileage out of ourself only in the morning.  Planning and preparation will keep our diet on track and we can stick to healthy life style.
