Day 125

Day 125 on Medi-Weightloss and Im feeling pretty damn good about the choices I made last night for my anniversary dinner out.

My husband and I went to our favorite restaurant, Luigis, and had an amazing meal.  He ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes & mixed veggies and I ordered the pan seared sea scallops with balsamic glaze from their Amalfi Coast Healthy Living Menu.  The scallops were served on a bed of mashed cauliflower with a side of spring greens - all drizzled with a heavenly balsamic reduction.  My meal was so delicious that I almost finished before my hubby had even cut into his steak! 

I was surprised that I actually finished my whole meal but the portions in the entree were quite reasonable and not terribly different from the portions I would typically have at home on Medi-Weightloss.  The best part?  The entree was just under 400 calories and did not put me over my daily calorie allowance for protein.

What did put me over the top was the cup of chicken escarole soup I had prior to my meal (90 calories), the one and a half pieces of fresh bread dipped in herb infused olive oil, and the 2 Andes Mints I had after the meal was done... Not to mention a glass of Sangria and a glass of Riesling.  So, I splurged a bit but nowhere near as much as I once would have and I certainly feel like I made up for the "extras" by choosing a light entree. 

Eating out is a challenge, whether youre dieting or not.  Making healthy choices can be nearly impossible depending on where you choose to eat but the key to making a good choice is making sure that there are healthier options available before you leave the house.  By choosing a healthy meal from the online menu before going to the restaurant I made sure that the only splurges to be made would be on alcohol, mints and the free bread.  While I could have ordered sparkling water instead of wine or opted to ignore the free bread and mints, I was realistic and chose to do what I knew I would probably do after Ive stopped trying to lose weight.  This way, I know what the consequences of those choices will be in the future because Ive already made the choices and will see the results on Saturday morning at my weigh-in.  And while this method may not be productive to losing weight this week, its something that will help me make better decisions in the future so that I can continue to lose weight and then keep it off.
